Notd: OPI Go With the Lava Flow

Im letzten Post (der ja schon wieder eine Weile zurückliegt) zeigte ich Opi's Go With the Lava Flow aus der Hawaii Kollektion. Weil dieser Lack sich in mein Herz geschlichen hat und so schön sommerlich ist, verdient er ein eigenes Posting. Wie schön knallt das bitte in der Sonne? Da bleibt einem doch die Spucke weg. Dieser Schimmer, Wahnsinn. Im Schatten ist Go With the Lava Flow nur ein schöner Koralleton. Nichts aufregendes, aber wenn dann ein Sonnenstrahl auf die Oberfläche trifft geht das goldig-schimmernde Feuerwerk los. Whoa. Zwei Schichten, Topcoat und dann bleibt der Sommer bitte noch ein bisschen länger. Ich finde, das haben wir uns verdient. 

It's been a while since my last post and because one product sneaked its way into my heart, I thought it's time to give this one five minutes of fame. Opi's Go With the Lava Flow from their Hawaii collection may just look like your average pretty summer coral. But I invite you to lean a little bit closer and watch this beauty in sunlight. It will hit you like whooooa. See what I mean? No more summery but average coral shade. Golden explosion coming right your way. All it takes is two coats of color, one coat of topcoat and summer can stay a little bit longer. Just give us a couple more hot days, September. Come on, we deserve it.

Stuff I love: Essie Nourish Me Base Coat and Seche Vite Fast Dry Top Coat

Wenn es um meine Nägel geht, bin ich streng. Ohne lackierte Nägel verlasse ich das Haus nicht. Eine nagellackfreie Nacht in der Woche plane ich aber grundsätzlich ein. Meistens wird am Samstag Abend (egal wie spät ich Heim komme) ablackiert, die Nägel gefeilt, ein DIY-Peeling gemacht und über Nacht eine regenerierende Maske aufgetragen. Gleich nach dem Frühstück am nächsten Tag geht es dann munter weiter mit der Maniküre. 

Mir ist bewusst, dass meine Nägel in der kurzen Zeit nur wenig aufatmen können, aber ohne etwas Farbe auf den Fingerspitzen fühle ich mich nackt. 

Die Spuren dieses exzessiven, bereits Jahre, nein Jahrzehnte andauernden Nagellackmissbrauchs spüre ich deutlich. Meine Nägel sind zwar nicht brüchig per se, aber die Nageloberfläche teilt sich in mehrere Schichten auf wenn ich Ihnen mit der Feile zu nahe komme. Leider lässt sich letzteres nicht vermeiden, weil meine Nägel wie Unkraut wachsen. Ich habe schon etliche Feilen ausprobiert. Immer mit dem selben Ergebnis: Nagelspliss. Auf dem Kopf habe ich dieses Problem Dank Glätteisenabstinenz hervorragend im Griff. Vielleicht würde eine vorübergehende Lackpause dieses Problem beheben, aber das ist einfach nicht drin.

Deswegen versuche ich mit guten Basecoats wenigstens etwas Abhilfe zu schaffen. Mein absolut liebster Basecoat ist der Nourish Me Basecoat von Essie. Er hält die einzelnen Schichten gut zusammen und glättet die Oberfläche für ein optimales Ergebnis. Nur leider gehört das nun der Vergangenheit an: Essie hat den Lack schon länger aus dem Sortiment genommen. Was man hier sieht, ist meine letzte Flasche. Danach ist es aus und vorbei. Ich bekomme schon leichte Panikattacken wenn ich sehe wie sich der Füllstand mit jedem Pinselstrich verringert. In spätestens ein bis zwei Monaten sitze ich dann da und werde das Internet verzweifelt auf der Suche nach einem brauchbaren Lückenfüller durchforsten. Kosten und Mühen werden nicht gescheut. Wenn es eine Alternative für den Nourish Me Basecoat gibt, ist mir der Preis herzlich egal. Wenn jemand einen fabelhaften Basecoat kennt der oben genannten Zustand irgendwie verbessern kann, so möge er jetzt bitte bitte sprechen. 

Mein liebster Topcoat ist da ein geringeres Problem. Der Seche Vite Fast Dry Top Coat ist mir Anfang des letzten Jahres mal bei TkMaxx in die Hände gefallen. Ich hatte zwar schon oft davon gelesen, aber er ist mir bis dato nie untergekommen. Am selben Tag noch probierte ich ihn aus und rannte am nächsten Tag zu TkMaxx um auch die restlichen drei Fläschen zu kaufen. In Polen besorge ich mir auch immer mehrere Backups. Der Seche Vite top coat trocknet wirklich in Windeseile, versiegelt die Oberfläche mit Spiegelglanz und fängt erst an Bläschen zu werfen, wenn nur noch ein Drittel des Lacks im Fläschchen vorhanden ist. Das habe ich mit anderen Topcoats sehr viel schneller erlebt. 

Der Nourish Me Basecoat von Essie und der Seche Vite Fast Dry Top Coat sind also mein Maniküre Dreamteam. Das in der Form leider kurz vor dem Aussterben steht. Und dann? Werde ich wohl zum Jäger des Verlorenen Schatzes werden und versuchen irgendwie, irgendwo noch an ein Fläschen Nourish Me zu kommen oder bitte bitte bitte einen neuen heiligen Gral finden. 

When it comes to wearing nail polish there's no room for discussion. I wear nail polish all day everyday. I never leave the house without painted fingertips. Once a week, usually on saturdays (no matter how late I might come home) I take off my current nail polish, file my nails, make a DIY-peeling and put on a moisturizing hand mask overnight. I'm aware that these couple of hours aren't enough for my nails to breathe, but that's all I can give them. I just feel naked without nail polish. I'm not myself with bare nails. But my excessive long lasting (we're talking decades here) nail polish abuse already starts to show: my nails aren't brittle and don't break easily, but when I use a nail file on them they start to split into various layers. That's why I hate it to file my nails, but they grow so fast, that it's inevitably. I tried various nail files, but they all result in spliced nail layers. Its sad to watch. I'm a hundred percent positive that a temporary nail polish abstinence would solve this problem, but unfortunately this won't happen. So I need a good base coat to keep all the layers in place. 

My number one base coat is Essie's Nourish Me Base Coat. It solves the problem (at least on the surface) and creates a perfectly smooth base for color. And here's the sad news: a while ago Essie decided to discontinue Nourish Me. What you see here is my very last bottle. I don't want to think of the day this one will be gone, but it's gonna be soon. And this is where I start to panic. What then? I better start to search the web for a good alternative, someone to fill the empty spot Nourish Me will leave behind. I don't care about the price tag. I just need a damn good base coat to pretend that my nails are alright. If anyone knows about a damn good base coat may come forward and say it loud please.

Top coat is a different story. I often read about the Seche Vite Fast Dry Top Coat, but couldn't find it in Germany. One day last year I stepped into my local TkMaxx and found a bottle of it. The same night I tested it, fell in love and the next morning ran back to TkMaxx to purchase another bottle (or three). I also buy several back ups whenever I'm in Poland. This is seriously good stuff. It dries within minutes and is super shiny. What I also like about it is that it doesn't get these annoying  bubbles so fast. They occur after 2/3 of the nail polish is gone. I experienced this phenomenon much faster with other top coats. So this is my manicure dream team which will face extinction very soon. I  will not give up on this and try to find at least another bottle of Nourish Me like Indiana Jones found the lost ark or maybe I will find another holy grail. Fingers crossed.

Der OPI Nagellack der Woche: Pepe's Purple Passion

Da heute schon der erste Advent gefeiert wird und ich mich schon wie ein Schnitzel auf mein erstes Adventskalendertörchen freue, ist es an der Zeit die Holiday Kollektionen und all die hübschen Schimmerlacke aus der Versenkung zu holen und sich langsam auf das große Fest einzustimmen.

Den Anfang macht heute Pepe's Purple Passion aus der Muppets Holiday Kollektion 2011. Es ist ein dunkles Lila mit recht großen pinken Schimmerpartikeln. Ich wünschte der Schimmer würde etwas mehr zum Vorschein kommen, aber leider ist er sehr versteckt. Auch nach zwei Schichten Pepe's Purple Passion und zwei großzügigen Schichten Seche Vite Topcoat bleibt er fast unsichtbar. Aber noch ist es ja ein paar Tage hin bis Weihnachten und es bleibt genug Zeit die Glitzer- und Schimmerbomben auszupacken. 

Since Christmas is only four weeks away ( when exactly did this year happen? I have no idea what I did between January and October) I thought that it's time to dust off all the pretty glittery holiday nail polishes. I'd like to start with Pepe's Purple Passion from the Muppets Holiday collection 2011. It has a dark purple base with rather large pieces of pink shimmer/glitter. Unfortunately the shimmer is super hidden. I tried two coats of Pepe's Purple Passion and two generous coats of Seche Vite Topcoat but the shimmer prefers to be nearly invisible. It's a tragedy. But don't give up on me now fellow shimmer lovers, there are more shiny nail polish on their way.

Der OPI Nagellack der Woche: Haven't the Foggiest

Manchmal frage ich mich, ob ich ein warmer oder kalter Typ bin. Testen kann man das indem man sich ein silbernes und goldenes Blatt neben das Gesicht hält. Daran soll man erkennen, welche Farbe besser zur Haut- und Haarfarbe passt. Ich erkenne da leider gar nichts. Überhaupt nichts. Entweder bin ich ein Mischtyp oder ich kann die Zeichen nicht deuten. Deswegen trage ich auch gerne beides. Sowohl Gold als auch Silber. In dieser Woche ist Silber an der Reihe. Der perfekte Nagellack dafür ist Haven't the Foggiest aus der San Francisco Kollektion vom letzten Herbst. Silbriger Schimmer so weit das Auge reicht. Auch mit Topcoat schimmert er zwar wie verrückt, ist aber irgendwie auch matt. Schwer zu erklären. Steht Haven't the Foggiest mir eigentlich? Kann ich leider nicht sagen. Auch nicht, wenn ich mir die Pranken ins Gesicht halte.

Do you know whether you have warm or cold undertones? I once read that you have to hold a silver and golden paper next to your face to figure out what looks good on you. I did it and still don't know if my skin leans more towards warm or cold. That's why I like to wear gold and silver and can hardly decide which one I prefer. This week I'm more into silver. I chose Haven't the Foggiest from Opi's San Francisco fall 2013 collection to complement my current mood. It's a silver foil that looks slightly matte. Even with top coat. I like Haven't the Foggiest. But I don't know if it likes me. You know maybe I'm more into gold after all.

Der OPI Nagellack der Woche: German-icure by Opi

Der Nagellack der Woche ist ein Prachtstück. German-icure by Opi aus der Germany Kollektion aus dem Herbst 2012 gehört zu meinen liebsten Lacken in der Sammlung. Er hat eine schwarze Base und ist durchzogen von feinstem, dunkelrotem Schimmer. Soo unfassbar schön. German-icure by Opi ist herbstlich, festlich und weihnachtlich. Ich wurde in dieser Woche schon unzählige Male darauf angesprochen. Zurecht wie ich finde. Unter der glänzenden Decke aus Topcoat wirkt der Lack fast wie ein glasierter Apfel oder wie eine Christbaumkugel. Leider sind die Fotos nicht unbedingt perfekt, aber im Moment ist graues Licht alles was ich hier zu sehen bekomme.

This week's nail polish is a favorite in my stash. It's just breathtaking. German-icury by Opi from Opi's Germany collection 2012 has a black base and tons of burgundy shimmer. It's so fall appropriate and festive and reminds me of a glazed apple you see on the christmas markets here in Germany. It looks as if the shimmer is locked in under a heavy coat of shiny top coat. I received a lot of compliments this week. People seem to like shimmery, vampy colors like German-icure by Opi. I wish the pictures could show you how beautiful this shade really is, but the sun goes down so early right now and the daylight is just grey...

Der OPI Nagellack der Woche: A Woman's Prague-Ative

Gerade noch rechtzeitig zu Halloween (und nicht erst zum Wochenende) kommt  hier der Nagellack der Woche: A Woman's Prague-Ative aus der Euro Centrale Kollektion aus dem Frühjahr 2013, ist ein schimmerndes Orange mit Tendenz zu Rostrot das mit kleinen Goldpartikeln durchzogen ist. Und der Lack wurde natürlich absichtlich ausgewählt, weil er aussieht wie ein Kürbis. Eigentlich fast schon wie ein Kürbis mit Lichtlein, aber ohne fiese Fratze. In der Sonne schimmert A Woman's Prague-Ative wie eine eigene kleine Sonne. Dafür braucht es nur zwei Schichten des Nagellacks und etwas Topcoat. Wer jetzt noch ein Last Minute Kostüm braucht: A Woman's Prague-Ative aufpinseln, Tshirt in Orange anziehen, vielleicht noch ein grünes Hütchen aufsetzen und schon ist man ein Kürbis. Ein wenig Lippenfarbe in Orange kann natürlich auch nicht schaden. Aber bloß nicht das ganze Gesicht im Kürbiston einfärben oder diese schlimmen, glänzenden Kunstwimpern aufkleben. Schon mal gesehen wie das auf Fotos aussieht? Eben. Auch Kürbisse haben Klasse.

Just in time for Halloween I would like to show you my nail polish of the week and yes, it is Halloween themed. A Woman's Prague-Ative from OPI's spring 2013 Euro Centrale collection is a bright orange with golden shimmer. Reminds you of Jack O'Lanterns? Good. You should see it in the sunlight. The shimmer transforms into its own sun. Pictures don't do it justice. Below you see two coats plus top coat. In case you need a last minute Halloween costume: Apply A Woman's Prague-Ative to your nails, wear an orange colored shirt and a green hat and voila, you're a pumpkin. I suggest to add a nice orange lip stick to your costume, you know to make it fancy. And ditch the fake orange lashes. Seriously. I've seen this before. It takes you from classy to trashy.

Der Opi Nagellack der Woche: Midnight in Moscow

Der Nagellack der Woche ist ein wahres Schätzchen. Midnight in Moscow aus der Russland Kollektion von 2007 hat eine dunkelgraue, fast schwarze Base in der ultra feiner roter Schimmer steckt. In der Sonne ist der Schimmer deutlich zu sehen, aber auch im Tageslicht sorgt er dafür, dass der Lack nicht zu hart wirkt. Durch den roten Schimmer wirkt der Lack fast Braun. Midnight in Moscow braucht zwei dünne Schichten und etwas Topcoat für extra Glanz und fertig. Toll für den Herbst <3 Ich habe die Farbe unter anderem zu meinem Date mit meiner ersten Pumpkin Spice Latte in diesem Jahr getragen. Mehr Herbst geht fast schon gar nicht.

This week's color is just fabulous. It's from OPI's Russian collection from 2007. Midnight in Moscow has a base that's almost black and is filled with red micro shimmer. The shimmer is really visible in sunlight. In daylight it just lightens up the black base so it appears brown. It's so perfect for fall. I wore this mani while having my first Pumpkin Spice Latte of the year (yay). I needed two costs for full coverage and one coat of top coat to add some extra shine to this beauty.

Der OPI Nagellack der Woche: We'll Always Have Paris

Wer meine Opi lovestory gelesen hat (wenn nicht, bitte hier entlang. Kurzes update: Seit dem post sind über 50 neue Opis bei mir eingezogen. Ist es eine Sucht, ist es Liebe? Wer weiß das schon so genau <3), der weiß, dass We'll Always Have Paris ein ganz spezieller Nagellack in meiner Sammlung ist. Er war nämlich mein allererster Opi. Er wurde restlos leerlackiert und musste bereits ersetzt werden. Außerdem stammt er aus der La Collection de France vom Herbst 2008 und die gehört ja bekanntlich zu meinen liebsten Kollektionen ever. Bei We'll Always Have Paris stimmt einfach alles. Kremige Konsistenz, gute Pigmentierung und großartige Farbe. Wenn ich mich nicht irre, beschreibt Opi es als "rich coffee". Es ist auf jeden fall eine Mischung aus Braun und Lila und Rotwein. So perfekt für den Herbst und immer absolut chic. Ich liebe diese Farbe. We'll Always Have Paris wird always einen Platz in meinem Herzen und meiner Top Ten haben.

Short update: since I posted this blogpost I have added more than 50 wonderful new shades to my stash. Call me crazy or addicted or in love <3), you know that We'll Always Have Paris is a special nail polish to me. It was my first Opi nail polish back in 2008 when the La Collection de France, one of my favs, was released. I already had to replace the original bottle because it's as empty as nail polish bottles can be (but I still keep it around. Yes, I'm that sentimental).  We'll Always Have Paris has everything I could ask for: It's creamy, very well pigmented and is just a great vampy color. I think that Opi described this shade with "rich coffee". I agree. It is a rich brown mixed with purple and red wine. It's perfect for fall and so chic. I just love, love, love it. This one will always be in my top ten Opi nail polishes. We'll always have each other.

Der OPI Nagellack der Woche: Today I Accomplished Zero

Ich bin ja nicht so der Typ für Softdrinks, aber gegen eine Coke Zero ist nichts einzuwenden. Wenn ich sie denn nicht trinken muss. OPI hat sich mit Coca Cola zusammengetan und eine gleichnamige Kollektion kreiert. Der Lack der Woche ist Teil dieser Kollektion und eben dieser wurde von Coke Zero inspiriert. Today I Accomplished Zero (passt übrigens perfekt zu meinem Zeitmanagement im Moment, weil Hausarbeitenzeit. Ich muss wahrscheinlich nicht mehr dazu sagen) hat eine Schwarze Base mit rotem Glitzer. Die Farbe ist erstaunlich gut pigmentiert. Ich hatte Today I Accomplished Zero zunächst für einen Layerlack gehalten, aber nee. Nach zwei Schichten ist vom Nagel nichts mehr zu sehen und ich kann nicht sagen, dass ich heute nichts erreicht habe. Immerhin habe ich mir die Nägel hübsch lackiert.

Oh und auf jeden Fall Topcoat verwenden. Der Lack ist sonst etwas matt und die Glitzerpartikel wirken so bröckelig. 

Usually I'm not into soft drinks, but when OPI teamed up with Coca Cola to create a collection, I had to hop on that bandwagon. This week's color is inspired by Coke Zero and is called Today I Accomplished Zero. It matches my current time management (issues), because I have to write several term papers and you know, it just doesn't happen the way I would like it to happen. Today I Accomplished Zero has a black base with red glitter. I expected it to be sheer and great for layering, but no sir. It is surprisingly opaque with just two coats. A little bit of top coat adds shine to the otherwise rather matte color and when you're done you at least accomplished a great mani. That's better than zero.

Der OPI Nagellack der Woche: Chillin' Like A Villain

Ich weiß ja nicht wie es euch geht, aber ich assoziiere eher Schwarz oder Grau mit Bösewichten. Aber Pfirsich? Chillin' Like A Villain aus der Muppets Most Wanted Kollektion ist ein helles Pfirsich/Beige mit Gelbstich. Geht noch als Nude durch, ist aber auch auffällig genug um etwas mehr als nur Nude zu sein. Chillin' Like A Villain braucht drei Schichten für volle Deckkraft und eine ruhige Hand, weil er leicht streifig wird. Ich empfehle auf jeden fall auch Topcoat, um eine perfekt glatte Oberfläche zu schaffen. Und dann kann man sich auch mal zurücklehnen und entspannen, so wie es scheinbar auch die Schurken in dem Muppet Film tun.


I don't know about you, but for me typical colors for villains are black or grey or dark green. Maybe I'm wrong, but peach? Obviously yes. Chillin' Like A Villain from Opi's Muppets Most Wanted collection is a light peachy nude with a touch of beige. This is supposed to be a color of Opi's soft shades and well, it fits perfectly. Chillin' Like A Villain's application can be tricky. It needs three coats to be fully opaque and can be a tad streaky after the first coat. Don't you feel like this isn't a villain's color at all? I mean, I'm totally okay with the shade, it's very pretty, but it is definitely more Muppet than villain.

Der OPI Nagellack der Woche: Tropical Punch

Tropical Punch. Der Name verrät ja schon, dass es sich hier um eine 1A Sommerfarbe handelt. Tropical Punch ist ein kräftiges Rotpink. Es erinnert mich total an Wassermelone. Tropical Punch gehört zu den classics von Opi. Die Farbe ist unheimlich gut pigmentiert. Im Prinzip reicht schon eine Schicht, aber ich hab trotzdem zwei lackiert. Und das gleich drei mal. Mein Topcoat scheint irgendwie Probleme zu haben und produziert ätzende Luftbläschen :( Ich hab zweimal neu lackiert und beim dritten Mal die Nerven verloren, also gibt es den Nagellack der Woche heute leider mit Luftbläschen. Interpretieren wir sie einfach als Eiswürfel im Fruchtpunsch.

The name of this week's nail polish already screams summer: Tropical Punch is a friuty red/pink that reminds me of juicy watermelon. It's one of Opi's classic nail polishes. It's so incredibly pigmented that you can get away with just one coat. I applied two coats plus top coat and had to repeat it like three times. My top coat had some serious issues with bubbles or maybe it was just the super humid air yesterday. I wasn't in the mood to re-apply my nail polish a fourth time, so unfortunately we will have to deal with some bubbles this week. Or let's just say they are tiny ice cubes in a glass of tropical punch.
