The 90's lip for nails and cheeks

An die 90er Jahre erinnere mich eher schlecht als recht, immerhin war ich da nur zwischen 3 und 13 Jahre alt. Ich erinnere mich aber gut an die Musik der 90er: Dr. Alban, Haddaway, Fun Factory, Mr. President... Ich könnte ewig so weitermachen. In den 90er Jahren habe ich nicht nur seltsame Musik gehört, sondern auch schlimme Dinge gesehen. Leider auch an mir. Die Rede ist von Baggypants, übergroßen Pullovern mit riesigen Logos darauf und Buffalo Plateau-Tretern (ich hatte ein Exemplar in dunkelblau mit Klettverschluss). Und natürlich hatte dieses Jahrzehnt auch einen ganz speziellen Look für Haar und Gesicht. Man denke an Natalie Imbruglias Video zu Torn für eine Haarschnittinspo (ich kombinierte dazu gerne einen Zickzack-Scheitel) und stelle sich viel zu dunklen braunen Lipliner zu beigem Lippenstift vor. Genau, zum Glück ist das vorbei. Ich habe das Gefühl, dass Lipliner seitdem für eine sehr lange Zeit verschwunden waren und nur zum Einsatz kamen, wenn roter Lippenstift auf dem Programm stand. Der Lipliner (besonders in Brauntönen) versetzte viele in Angst und Schrecken und fristete ein einsames Dasein in den Beautyregalen. Aber das ist jetzt vorbei. Kylie Jenner sei Dank. Die 90er Lippe ist wieder da und brauner Lipliner und die dazugehörigen Lippenstifte werden dem Parfümerie- und Drogeriepersonal förmlich aus den Händen gerissen. Ok, vielleicht habe ich ein wenig übertrieben, aber die 90er Lippe erfreut sich auf jeden Fall wachsender Beliebtheit. Wenn ich einen Blick in meine Lippenstiftschublade werfe, dann tummeln sich da sehr viele Lippenstifte die in das 90er Farbschema passen. Es dominiert mal wärmeres, mal kühleres Rosenholz das Bild dort, aber es ist ganz sicher Rosenholz. So recht finde ich aber keinen 100%igen Ton der so richtig Kylie Jenner ist und außerdem ist das Netz schon voll mit Dupes von Catrice bis Yves Saint Laurent. Ich habe daher in meinem Kosmetikarchiv gewühlt und habe eine 90er Lippe inspirierte Nagellack-und-Rouge-Kombination herausgesucht. 

Den Anfang macht OPIs Tickle My France-y aus der La Collection de France von 2008 (große Liebe). Es ist ein kühles Nude, das irgendwie auch ein bisschen rosig ist und einen ganz, ganz feinen Lilastich hat. Ich habe Tickle My France-y in dieser Woche getragen und bin so darin verliebt, wie man es nur sein kann. Perfekt dazu passt MACs Powder Blush in Mocha. Ist ebenfalls relativ kühl (jedenfalls auf meiner bleichen Haut) und schön matchy-matchy.

Weil die 90er Lippe viele Gesichter hat und gerne auch etwas wärmer daherkommen kann, habe ich noch ein bisschen tiefer in der Trickkiste gewühlt und eine zweite Farbkombination aufgetrieben. Wer an sich lieber warme Töne sieht, dem empfehle ich an dieser Stelle OPIs Barefoot in Barcelona aus der Coleccion de España 2009. Ein schönes Nude mit warmen Untertönen. Es geht schon deutlicher in die Richtung Braun, und ist dabei sehr hübsch anzuschauen. Ein Blush das so so gut dazu passt ist der Clinique Chubby Stick Cheek Colour Balm in der Farbe 01 Amp'd Up Apple. Ja, das ist wahrscheinlich mein liebstes Rouge (hier und hier schon lang und breit davon geschwärmt), wird hier aber aufgrund der Farbe erwähnt. Und ich muss gestehen, dass ich mich habe hinreißen lassen und noch einen passenden Lippenstift herausgesucht habe. Wenn in diesem Post schon die 90er Lippe (wie oft kann dieses Wort in nur einem Beitrag genannt werden?) vorkommt, dann sollte sie das auch tatsächlich tun, sonst fehlt dem Ganzen ja auch irgendwie die Daseinsberechtigung. Der Burberry Lip Cover Soft Satin Lipstick in Antique Rose geht mit Barefoot in Barcelona und Amp'd Up Apple eine liebevolle Gemeinschaft warmer 90er Töne ein. Das dürfte Kylie Jenner doch auch ganz gut gefallen.

Actually I wanted to name this post Five shades of the 90's lip, but neither have I  read the books nor have watched the movie yet and so there's no point in talking about things you have no clue about. What I know is, that the 90's fashion and make up are having a major comeback. I remember these specific years as follows: I had a hair cut like Natalia Imbruglia in her video Torn, wore baggy pants, oversized sweaters with huge logos prints on it, buffalo platform boots and dark brown lipliner with much lighter lipstick (To my excuse: I did this just a couple of times, because I was more into pink and purple eye shadow at that time). Wow, this already sounds so wrong. And it even looked worse. At least the music was fun. I can still sing along to everything Dr.Alban, Mr. President, Haddaway or Fun Factory released at that time. Not only because the lyrics were so simple that even I could have written them. 

But back to makeup: After the 90's abuse of dark lipliner I feel like people were afraid of lining their lips for a very long time. Just the thought of using it caused some kind of trauma. Red lipstick was the only exception I guess. But thanks to Kylie Jenner, lip liners and 90's colored lipsticks are back. Now that MAC's Twig, Velvet Teddy and Brave are having a moment, I thought that its time to check my beauty drawers for 90's related shades. There are lots of brownish rosewood colored lip products in my stash, but I want something more. How about a 90's lip inspired nail and blush combination?

Let's start with OPI's Tickle My France-y from their La Collection de France 2008 (aka one of the best ever). It is a rather cold pinkish nude with a barely there purple undertone. I wore it this week and I am madly in love with it. So pretty. If you want a matching cheek color I suggest you go with MAC's Powder Blush in Mocha. If you're more into warmer shades I can happily recommend OPI's Barefoot in Barcelona from their Coleccion de España 2009. A warm brownish nude. Perfectly along with it goes Clinique's Chubby Stick Cheek Colour Balm in 01 Amp'd Up Apple. Yes, I know I already raved about it before (for evidence take a look at this and this), but today it's just about color. And because I have mentioned the term 90's lip at least ten times in this post, I can't leave you without an actual 90's lip. So I swatched everything in my lipstick drawer and came up with this: The perfect warm 90's lip shade I own is the Burberry Lip Cover Soft Satin Lipstick in Antique Rose. 

Is this a match made in heaven or what?

Der OPI Nagellack der Woche: We'll Always Have Paris

Wer meine Opi lovestory gelesen hat (wenn nicht, bitte hier entlang. Kurzes update: Seit dem post sind über 50 neue Opis bei mir eingezogen. Ist es eine Sucht, ist es Liebe? Wer weiß das schon so genau <3), der weiß, dass We'll Always Have Paris ein ganz spezieller Nagellack in meiner Sammlung ist. Er war nämlich mein allererster Opi. Er wurde restlos leerlackiert und musste bereits ersetzt werden. Außerdem stammt er aus der La Collection de France vom Herbst 2008 und die gehört ja bekanntlich zu meinen liebsten Kollektionen ever. Bei We'll Always Have Paris stimmt einfach alles. Kremige Konsistenz, gute Pigmentierung und großartige Farbe. Wenn ich mich nicht irre, beschreibt Opi es als "rich coffee". Es ist auf jeden fall eine Mischung aus Braun und Lila und Rotwein. So perfekt für den Herbst und immer absolut chic. Ich liebe diese Farbe. We'll Always Have Paris wird always einen Platz in meinem Herzen und meiner Top Ten haben.

Short update: since I posted this blogpost I have added more than 50 wonderful new shades to my stash. Call me crazy or addicted or in love <3), you know that We'll Always Have Paris is a special nail polish to me. It was my first Opi nail polish back in 2008 when the La Collection de France, one of my favs, was released. I already had to replace the original bottle because it's as empty as nail polish bottles can be (but I still keep it around. Yes, I'm that sentimental).  We'll Always Have Paris has everything I could ask for: It's creamy, very well pigmented and is just a great vampy color. I think that Opi described this shade with "rich coffee". I agree. It is a rich brown mixed with purple and red wine. It's perfect for fall and so chic. I just love, love, love it. This one will always be in my top ten Opi nail polishes. We'll always have each other.

Der OPI Nagellack der Woche: Yes...I Can-Can!

In dieser Woche gibt es mal wieder einen wunderschönen Nagellack aus der fabelhaften La Collection de France aus dem Herbst 2008. Leider habe ich immer noch nicht alle Farben zusammen, aber A Oui Bit of Red und Louvre Me, Louvre Me Not habe ich schon hier auf dem Blog gezeigt und jetzt gibt es die nächste Runde: Yes...I Can-Can! ist ein dunkler Pflaumenton mit subtilem, silbernem Schimmer. Ich habe zwei Schichten Yes...I Can-Can! plus Topcoat aufgetragen und bin mit dem Ergebnis mehr als zufrieden. Weil diese Woche die Sonne scheinen soll, wird der Schimmer auch immer schön zu sehen sein.

More La Collection de France fabulousness! I love, love, love this collection. I'm still collecting all nail polishes which have been released with the La Collection de France in the fall of 2008. I already blogged about A Oui Bit of Red and Louvre Me, Louvre Me Not and here comes another pretty color: Yes...I Can-Can! is a vampy, dark plum with subtile, silver shimmer. In the pictures below Iam wearing two coats of Yes...I Can-Can! plus top coat. The sunshine really brings out the shimmer of this color and thankfully the weather is supposed to be like this all week.

Der OPI Nagellack der Woche: You Don't Know Jacques! Suede

Ich möchte gar nicht so viele Worte zum Lack der Woche verlieren, außer: OMG ENDLICH!!! Seitdem Opi die Kollektion mit den matten Lacken im Suedefinish 2009 released hat, stehen sie auf meiner Wunschliste und dort ganz, ganz oben. Ständig habe ich das Netz durchforstet und auf ebay.com gefühlt jeden Verkäufer gestalkt, der Opi Nagellacke verkaufte. Und dann, im Januar schnappte die Falle zu. Und hier ist er, einer der Träume meiner schlaflosen Nächte: You Don't Know Jacques! Suede. Wo soll ich anfangen? You Don't Know Jacques! wurde ja ursprünglich mit der Frankreich Kollektion 2008 released, die Suede-Version ein Jahr später und so viel Ähnlichkeit haben die beiden Farben nicht... Nicht weiter schlimm, weil Suede auch einfach mal viel schöner ist. Ich würde You Don't Know Jacques! Suede als Taupe mit silbernem Schimmer bezeichnen. Und dieses matte Finish ist einfach nur der Wahnsinn. Es fühlt sich glatt und irgendwie seidig an und trocknet schon fast beim Auftragen (kein Witz!). Man kann dem Lack beim Trocknen zusehen. Eine Schicht deckt schon hervorragend, mit der Zweiten wird's perfekt und nach 5 Minuten (man bedenke die Trockenzeit des Basecoats) ist die Maniküre fertig. Wie kann man You Don't Know Jacques! Suede da nicht lieben?


Actually there is not that much I want to say about this week's nail polish, but wait, no maybe I want. But first thing first: OMG Finally! It's mine. Since OPI has released their fabulous collection of Suedes back in 2009 I'm hooked. They have been on the very top of my wish list forever. I spent nights screening the web and stalking every seller on ebay.com for just a hint of them. And then it happened. In January I found You Don't Know Jacques! Suede and here it is. Where should I start? You Don't Know Jacques! has been released with the famous La Collection de France in 2008, the suede version of it one year later in 2009. They do not look similar at all, but who cares? You Don't Know Jacques! Suede is much prettier. You Don't Know Jacques! Suede is a taupe color with silver shimmer. So so gorgeous. I love the matte finish, it is so smooth and silky. It dries in seconds, you can literally watch it drying while applying (I can rhyme, isn't that fine?). You can get away with just one coat or use two for maximum coverage. With base coat you will just need about five minutes for a manicure. Five minutes. No kidding. How can one not love You Don't Know Jacques! Suede?

Der OPI Nagellack der Woche: Louvre Me Louvre Me Not

Hier mal wieder ein Schätzchen aus der von mir heiß geliebten La Collection de France: Louvre Me Louvre Me Not. Dieser wunderschöne, rötliche Pflaumenton mit pinkem Schimmer wurde im Herbst 2008 released und müsste mittlerweile schon zu den Klassikern aus dem OPI Sortiment gehören. Nach der ersten Schicht wirkte die Farbe noch etwas dünn auf den Nägeln, aber eine zweite Schicht und Topcoat liefern ein perfektes Ergebnis. Der pinke Schimmer ist im Fläschchen gut sichtbar, leider ist er auf den Nägeln weniger auffällig. Das macht den Lack allerdings nicht weniger schön. Louvre Me Louvre Me Not ist ein toller, lebendiger Herbstton und kann uneingeschränkt von mir empfohlen werden!

Here we have another lovely nail polish from Opi's great 2008 La Collection de France: Louvre Me Louvre Me Not. It's a gorgeous red toned plum with pink shimmer in it. The shimmer is very visible in the bottle, but less visible on the nail. Nevertheless it's a great color. I needed two coats for full opacity and top coat for ultimate shine. This one must be a classic by now and available at your usual OPI sources. Louvre Me Louvre Me Not is a nice color for fall and you should get it if your on the hunt for a pretty plum color to have in your stash!

Der OPI Nagellack der Woche: The Color of Minnie

Diese Farbe könnte ich sofort umtaufen in The Color of Mine! Denn The Color of Minnie ist genau mein Ding. Unfassbar, dass ich ihn noch nicht vorgestellt hab. Da nächsten Monat bereits eine neue Kollektion namens Couture de Minnie (die Runway Minnies werden so schnell wie möglich in meinen Besitz übergehen!!) auf den Markt kommt, wurde es spätestens jetzt Zeit für eine Vorstellung aus der Vintage Minnie Mouse-Serie. Die Kollektion wurde letzes Jahr im Frühling/Sommer released und enthielt unter anderem die Farbe der Woche. Diese erschien in einer dieser zuckersüßen Minipacks, die selbstverständlich zu meiner Sammlung gehört. The Color of Minnie ist ein perfektes Rot, dass diesen sagenhaft schönen, pinken "inneren Schimmer" hat. Eigentlich erinnert es mich total an Weihnachten, aber das ist mir angesichts dieser Knallerfarbe sowas von egal. Außerdem haben wir hier in NRW zur Zeit sowieso keinen richtigen Sommer, ach was nicht mal Frühling... Außerdem sieht er A Oui Bit of Red aus der Frankreich Kollektion, den ich hier schon vorgestellt habe, zum Verwechseln ähnlich.

Zwei Schichten decken mehr als nötig und Topcoat versiegelt den Schimmer noch zusätzlich. Ein Traum :) 

Mal so nebenbei: Falls OPI mal wieder eine Disney-Kollektion plant, dann schnappt euch bitte bitte Goofy! Er ist mein Kindheitsheld! Wenn ich sage, dass er mich geprägt hat, dann übertreibe ich nicht. Die Tolpatschigkeit kann keine andere Quelle haben...

I would love to re-name this week's color, because actually it's not The Color of Minnie but The Color of Mine! Jep, I simply love this one! I can't think of a reasons why I haven't showed it earlier on the blog. But better late than never. Especially because there will be a new Minnie Mouse collection available in June. Couture de Minnie features some gorgeous, of course Minnie-inspired colors that are on my wish list already. 

But here we go with The Color of Minnie: It has been released with the Vintage Minnie Mouse-collection in springtime last year. It was part of these cute little mini sets, that I had to add to my collection the minute I saw it!

The Color of Minnie is a beautiful, true, opaque red with an insane pink shimmer that comes from "within". Two coats are more than enough for full opacity and topcoat adds some more shine to it. Somehow it reminds me of Christmas time. But I don't care, I love it (thanks, Icona Pop)! Besides we have like no summer or spring at all in my area, so I don't care at all. The color is also very similar to OPI's A Oui Bit of Red from La Collection de France. See it here.

If OPI has plans to release some more Disney-inspired collection, then pleeeease go for Goofy (fingers crossed)! He's my hero and definitely had some influence on me. Otherwise I can't explain the clumsiness...

Der OPI Nagellack der Woche: A Oui Bit of Red

Dass ich eine Schwäche für Rottöne und alle dunklen Farben habe, kann ich wahrscheinlich nicht mehr verbergen. Deshalb musste es in dieser Woche auch mal wieder etwas rotes sein. Die Wahl fiel auf einen Klassiker aus der La Collection de France aus der Herbst/Winter Saison 2008. A Oui bit of red ist ein Rot wie es im Bilderbuch steht. Es ist kräftig, cremig und ist unauffällig auffällig. Es hat einen unheimlich feinen roten und pinken Schimmer, der so fein ist, dass er erst im Sonnenlicht richtig gut sichtbar ist. Und trotzdem: Ich liiiiebe diese Farbe! Ich habe ja schon von der Frankreich Kollektion geschwärmt, die viele alltime-favorites hervorgebracht hat. Manche sind leider nur noch schwer erhältlich. Aber das Drama kennen wir ja schon von der Russian Collection. Der Farbauftrag ist perfekt und nach einer Schicht schon voll deckend und glänzend (ich bevorzuge wie immer zwei Schichten plus Topcoat).
A Oui bit of red ist ein absoluter Allrounder. Funktioniert mit jedem Outfit und das zu jeder Tageszeit. Wann immer ich ihn auftrage fühle ich mich augenblicklich très chic. Perfekt also für all die Tage, an denen man sich nach französischem Flair sehnt und das Ringelshirt mal nicht ausreicht.

Obviously I´m really into all red and glamorous dark colors. So this week its about time for another red nail polish. A Oui bit of red from the La Collection de France fall/winter 2008 is a true, creamy and bright red with very slight pink and red shimmer. It is barely noticeable unless your out in the sunlight. But I love it anyway! Like I already mentioned, I´m a huge fan of the France collection, because it produced many all time favorites. Unfortunately some of the polishes are hard to find (same dilemma as with the Russian collection). The formula is great and opaque and shiny with just one coat (but I prefer two as always and topcoat). A Oui bit of red is very universal, you can wear it from day to night time. Wearing it I instantly feel trés chic. So its perfect for all those days when you are longing for some French touch and a navy striped shirt just wouldn´t do it.

Der OPI Nagellack der Woche: Russian Navy

Der Lack den ich in dieser Woche vorstelle, gehört zum einen zu den Klassikern von OPI und zum anderen zu meinen Lieblingen. Russian Navy wurde 2007 mit der Russian Collection released. Für mich nebst der La Collection de France von 2008 die schönste und vielleicht sogar legendärste Kollektion die OPI bislang produziert hat. Jeder Farbton dieser Kollektion ist zeitlos schön. Von den kräftigen Rottönen bis zu den dunklen, eleganten Onyxtönen. Da viele der Farben nur noch schwer zu bekommen sind, halte ich stets Augen&Ohren offen um keine Gelegenheit auszulassen noch mehr Schätze aus dieser fabelhaften Kollektion nach Hause zu holen. Bisher konnte ich Suzi says da und Russian Navy meiner Sammlung hinzufügen. 

Russian Navy ist ein dunkles Metallicblau mit sehr feinem, blauem und lila Schimmer. In der Flasche kommen die Schimmerpartikel voll zur Geltung. Im Sonnenlicht ist ein feiner Hauch davon zu sehen. Nach einer Schicht ist er nahezu deckend, nach zwei Schichten allerdings bekommt er diese besondere Tiefe und durch Topcoat noch mehr Glanz. Es ist eine unheimlich glamouröse Farbe, die auch Jeans&Tshirt sofort etwas schicker macht.

Russian Navy sollte in keiner Sammlung fehlen, weil es zeitlos klassisch ist und in Verbindung mit Safrangelb und Weiß wunderbare Highlights setzt!

So here we go: 
This week's choice of OPI nail polish is really one of my favorites. Besides that, it is an Opi classic.
 Russian Navy was released in fall/winter of 2007 as one of the twelve legendary colors of the Russian collection. Personally I think that this collection (followed by the 2008 La Collection de France) is the best OPI has released so far. Every single color is gorgeous. Starting with the deep, shining reds and not ending with all the vampy, glamorous darks. 
I managed to add Suzi says da and Russian Navy to my own collection and hope there are more to follow (since some of the colors have been discontinued and therefore hard to find)! 
Russian Navy is a dark metallic blue with subtile blue and purple shimmer.
 It is very obvious in the bottle and when the sunlight hits the nail you definitely see hints of it. It is nearly opaque with one coat, but I prefer to apply two coats so that this very rich depth is given. I recommend topcoat to add even more shine to it. 
This color is so glamorous and elegant, that it can instantly refresh your daily jeans and Tshirt-uniform.
 I love to pair it with yellows and whites, so that it has this kind of beautiful, highlighting effect.
