Stuff I love: Essie Nourish Me Base Coat and Seche Vite Fast Dry Top Coat

Wenn es um meine Nägel geht, bin ich streng. Ohne lackierte Nägel verlasse ich das Haus nicht. Eine nagellackfreie Nacht in der Woche plane ich aber grundsätzlich ein. Meistens wird am Samstag Abend (egal wie spät ich Heim komme) ablackiert, die Nägel gefeilt, ein DIY-Peeling gemacht und über Nacht eine regenerierende Maske aufgetragen. Gleich nach dem Frühstück am nächsten Tag geht es dann munter weiter mit der Maniküre. 

Mir ist bewusst, dass meine Nägel in der kurzen Zeit nur wenig aufatmen können, aber ohne etwas Farbe auf den Fingerspitzen fühle ich mich nackt. 

Die Spuren dieses exzessiven, bereits Jahre, nein Jahrzehnte andauernden Nagellackmissbrauchs spüre ich deutlich. Meine Nägel sind zwar nicht brüchig per se, aber die Nageloberfläche teilt sich in mehrere Schichten auf wenn ich Ihnen mit der Feile zu nahe komme. Leider lässt sich letzteres nicht vermeiden, weil meine Nägel wie Unkraut wachsen. Ich habe schon etliche Feilen ausprobiert. Immer mit dem selben Ergebnis: Nagelspliss. Auf dem Kopf habe ich dieses Problem Dank Glätteisenabstinenz hervorragend im Griff. Vielleicht würde eine vorübergehende Lackpause dieses Problem beheben, aber das ist einfach nicht drin.

Deswegen versuche ich mit guten Basecoats wenigstens etwas Abhilfe zu schaffen. Mein absolut liebster Basecoat ist der Nourish Me Basecoat von Essie. Er hält die einzelnen Schichten gut zusammen und glättet die Oberfläche für ein optimales Ergebnis. Nur leider gehört das nun der Vergangenheit an: Essie hat den Lack schon länger aus dem Sortiment genommen. Was man hier sieht, ist meine letzte Flasche. Danach ist es aus und vorbei. Ich bekomme schon leichte Panikattacken wenn ich sehe wie sich der Füllstand mit jedem Pinselstrich verringert. In spätestens ein bis zwei Monaten sitze ich dann da und werde das Internet verzweifelt auf der Suche nach einem brauchbaren Lückenfüller durchforsten. Kosten und Mühen werden nicht gescheut. Wenn es eine Alternative für den Nourish Me Basecoat gibt, ist mir der Preis herzlich egal. Wenn jemand einen fabelhaften Basecoat kennt der oben genannten Zustand irgendwie verbessern kann, so möge er jetzt bitte bitte sprechen. 

Mein liebster Topcoat ist da ein geringeres Problem. Der Seche Vite Fast Dry Top Coat ist mir Anfang des letzten Jahres mal bei TkMaxx in die Hände gefallen. Ich hatte zwar schon oft davon gelesen, aber er ist mir bis dato nie untergekommen. Am selben Tag noch probierte ich ihn aus und rannte am nächsten Tag zu TkMaxx um auch die restlichen drei Fläschen zu kaufen. In Polen besorge ich mir auch immer mehrere Backups. Der Seche Vite top coat trocknet wirklich in Windeseile, versiegelt die Oberfläche mit Spiegelglanz und fängt erst an Bläschen zu werfen, wenn nur noch ein Drittel des Lacks im Fläschchen vorhanden ist. Das habe ich mit anderen Topcoats sehr viel schneller erlebt. 

Der Nourish Me Basecoat von Essie und der Seche Vite Fast Dry Top Coat sind also mein Maniküre Dreamteam. Das in der Form leider kurz vor dem Aussterben steht. Und dann? Werde ich wohl zum Jäger des Verlorenen Schatzes werden und versuchen irgendwie, irgendwo noch an ein Fläschen Nourish Me zu kommen oder bitte bitte bitte einen neuen heiligen Gral finden. 

When it comes to wearing nail polish there's no room for discussion. I wear nail polish all day everyday. I never leave the house without painted fingertips. Once a week, usually on saturdays (no matter how late I might come home) I take off my current nail polish, file my nails, make a DIY-peeling and put on a moisturizing hand mask overnight. I'm aware that these couple of hours aren't enough for my nails to breathe, but that's all I can give them. I just feel naked without nail polish. I'm not myself with bare nails. But my excessive long lasting (we're talking decades here) nail polish abuse already starts to show: my nails aren't brittle and don't break easily, but when I use a nail file on them they start to split into various layers. That's why I hate it to file my nails, but they grow so fast, that it's inevitably. I tried various nail files, but they all result in spliced nail layers. Its sad to watch. I'm a hundred percent positive that a temporary nail polish abstinence would solve this problem, but unfortunately this won't happen. So I need a good base coat to keep all the layers in place. 

My number one base coat is Essie's Nourish Me Base Coat. It solves the problem (at least on the surface) and creates a perfectly smooth base for color. And here's the sad news: a while ago Essie decided to discontinue Nourish Me. What you see here is my very last bottle. I don't want to think of the day this one will be gone, but it's gonna be soon. And this is where I start to panic. What then? I better start to search the web for a good alternative, someone to fill the empty spot Nourish Me will leave behind. I don't care about the price tag. I just need a damn good base coat to pretend that my nails are alright. If anyone knows about a damn good base coat may come forward and say it loud please.

Top coat is a different story. I often read about the Seche Vite Fast Dry Top Coat, but couldn't find it in Germany. One day last year I stepped into my local TkMaxx and found a bottle of it. The same night I tested it, fell in love and the next morning ran back to TkMaxx to purchase another bottle (or three). I also buy several back ups whenever I'm in Poland. This is seriously good stuff. It dries within minutes and is super shiny. What I also like about it is that it doesn't get these annoying  bubbles so fast. They occur after 2/3 of the nail polish is gone. I experienced this phenomenon much faster with other top coats. So this is my manicure dream team which will face extinction very soon. I  will not give up on this and try to find at least another bottle of Nourish Me like Indiana Jones found the lost ark or maybe I will find another holy grail. Fingers crossed.

Der OPI Nagellack der Woche: You Don't Know Jacques! Suede

Ich möchte gar nicht so viele Worte zum Lack der Woche verlieren, außer: OMG ENDLICH!!! Seitdem Opi die Kollektion mit den matten Lacken im Suedefinish 2009 released hat, stehen sie auf meiner Wunschliste und dort ganz, ganz oben. Ständig habe ich das Netz durchforstet und auf ebay.com gefühlt jeden Verkäufer gestalkt, der Opi Nagellacke verkaufte. Und dann, im Januar schnappte die Falle zu. Und hier ist er, einer der Träume meiner schlaflosen Nächte: You Don't Know Jacques! Suede. Wo soll ich anfangen? You Don't Know Jacques! wurde ja ursprünglich mit der Frankreich Kollektion 2008 released, die Suede-Version ein Jahr später und so viel Ähnlichkeit haben die beiden Farben nicht... Nicht weiter schlimm, weil Suede auch einfach mal viel schöner ist. Ich würde You Don't Know Jacques! Suede als Taupe mit silbernem Schimmer bezeichnen. Und dieses matte Finish ist einfach nur der Wahnsinn. Es fühlt sich glatt und irgendwie seidig an und trocknet schon fast beim Auftragen (kein Witz!). Man kann dem Lack beim Trocknen zusehen. Eine Schicht deckt schon hervorragend, mit der Zweiten wird's perfekt und nach 5 Minuten (man bedenke die Trockenzeit des Basecoats) ist die Maniküre fertig. Wie kann man You Don't Know Jacques! Suede da nicht lieben?


Actually there is not that much I want to say about this week's nail polish, but wait, no maybe I want. But first thing first: OMG Finally! It's mine. Since OPI has released their fabulous collection of Suedes back in 2009 I'm hooked. They have been on the very top of my wish list forever. I spent nights screening the web and stalking every seller on ebay.com for just a hint of them. And then it happened. In January I found You Don't Know Jacques! Suede and here it is. Where should I start? You Don't Know Jacques! has been released with the famous La Collection de France in 2008, the suede version of it one year later in 2009. They do not look similar at all, but who cares? You Don't Know Jacques! Suede is much prettier. You Don't Know Jacques! Suede is a taupe color with silver shimmer. So so gorgeous. I love the matte finish, it is so smooth and silky. It dries in seconds, you can literally watch it drying while applying (I can rhyme, isn't that fine?). You can get away with just one coat or use two for maximum coverage. With base coat you will just need about five minutes for a manicure. Five minutes. No kidding. How can one not love You Don't Know Jacques! Suede?

OPI Neon Revolution Miniset

Der Sommer ist endgültig vorbei. Es ist an der Zeit, die Boots und Schals herauszukramen und luftige Kleidchen zu verstauen. Trotzdem kann man genau jetzt prima in Sommererinnerungen schwelgen (dabei unbedingt einen Pumpkin Spice Latte von Starbucks trinken). Ich tue das, in dem ich heute ein paar richtige Sommernagellacke aus der Mottenkiste krame. Ich habe absolut nichts gegen Knallfarben, ein bisschen Neon schadet nie. Aber da ich eher ein Herbsttyp bin und ich dunkle, schimmernde Farben einfach lieber mag, bin ich an dem Neon Revolution-Miniset von OPI ewig herumgeschlichen. So lange, bis Ania es mir unter die Nase hielt. Ich bin leider nicht mehr dazu gekommen die Farben zu tragen, weil ich schon früh wieder auf dunklere Nuancen gepolt war, aber meine Swatchsticks können immerhin schon einen Eindruck von diesen Knallern geben.

Das Set enthält vier Neonfarben, einen weißen Basecoat und einen Topcoat. 

Der weiße Basecoat ist auf jeden Fall zu empfehlen, da die Farben durch ihn erst richtig zur Geltung kommen. Die Lacke sind zwar recht gut pigmentiert, brauchen aber zwei wirklich großzügige oder besser noch drei ordentliche Schichten, um wirklich gleichmäßig und deckend zu sein (besonderes Problemkind: der blaue Lack).
Das Set enthält die Farben: Don't Say It - Yellow It!, ein kräftiges Gelb, ein wenig Eidottergelb; The Time Is Pow!, ein knalliges Orange ohne Gelbstich; Pink Outside the Box, Neonpink und Blue It Out of Proportion, ein intensives, mittleres Blau.

Summer is over, for good. Now it's time to get your boots and scarves and put away your lovely summer dresses. So it's the right time to reminisce about your memories of summer (pumpkin spice latte for that purpose?). To me summer is all about bright colors. I like the bright ones, but when it comes to fall colors, I'm totally in. So it happened, that I let the OPI Neon Revolution mini set pass me a couple times until my friend Ania put it under my very nose. I couldn't menage to actually wear these, because I switched to fall colors really early. But I guess that my swatchsticks can give you an impression of how the colors will look on your nails.

The set includes four colors, one bottle of white base coat and a top coat. I definitively recommend the white base coat that goes under the neon polish. It really makes the colors pop! The pigmentation of these were nice, but you really need two thick or better three generous coats to even everything out, because some of the polishes (talking to you, blue one) tend to be very patchy and streaky.
The colors of the mini set are: Don't Say It - Yellow It!, a neon yellow with a little bit of egg yolk in it; The Time Is Pow! a wow orange neon; Pink Outside the Box, a hot, bright pink and Blue It Out of Proportion, a bold cobalt blue.

Der OPI Nagellack der Woche: Can't Let Go liquid sand

Stay the Night aus der Mariah Carey liquid sand collection habe ich bereits vorgestellt. Heute trage ich Can't Let Go, eine weitere Farbe der vier stage shades. Es ist ein mittleres Lila. Auf Bildern wirkt es aber eher blurple, also etwas zwischen Blau und Lila mit kleineren und größeren, runden lila-farbenen Glitzerpartikeln. Ich finde, dass das Sand-Finish hier weniger auffällig ist, als es bei Stay the Night der Fall ist. Trotzdem macht die Farbe richtig was her. Außerdem finde ich das "Aufräumen" hier leichter. Falls mal was daneben geht, kann man den Lack im nassen Zustand ganz leicht mir einer spitzen Feile oder einem Rosenholzstäbchen abnehmen.
Der Lack hält auch relativ lang. Stay the Night habe ich vier Tage lang ohne Tipwear auf den Nägeln gehabt. Lediglich am Daumen war ein wenig Lack abgesplittert, was daran liegen wird dass ich meinen Daumen am Samstag 40-mal in eine Bowlingkugel stecken musste.
Das Entfernen war allerdings...puuuh. Ich sag's mal so: Ich musste die Folie auspacken.

Ansonsten mag ich das Sand-Finish so langsam. Glaub ich :) 

I already showed you Stay the Night from the Mariah Carey liquid sand collection. Here's another one from the stage shades: Can't Let Go. It is a medium light purple, which looks more blurple in the pictures. Its more purple than blue in real life and it has some purple hex glitters and also smaller pieces of glitter in it. 

I really like the color although I feel like the sand finish here is not that visible, compared to Stay the Night. 

I experienced that "cleaning up" the sand finish is easier when it's still wet, so that you can take away polish that got on you cuticles or elsewhere easily. 

I wore Stay the Night for about four days without noticing tipwear. After putting my hand into the bowling ball forty times, the polish on my thumb suffered a little bit. Not very shocking...

Removing it was a pain. I had to use the foil method. Now that I've tried my second sand finish nail polish, I think I kinda like it :)

OPI Liquid Sand: Stay the Night

Leugnen ist zwecklos: Ich liebe, liebe, liebe Nagellack. Im Prinzip gibt es für mich keine unschönen, untragbaren Lackfarben. Außer wahnsinnig natürliche, transparente Töne. Sheer? Das ist für mich wie gar kein Nagellack.
Ähnlich ist es mit Trends. Ich brauche immer ein bisschen länger, um mich darauf einzulassen. Für mich geht eben nichts über einen guten, cremigen Nagellack.

Aber probieren geht über studieren. Im Januar releaste Opi mit der Mariah Carey Kollektion die ersten liquid sand-Lacke.
Die vier stage shades gab es in einer der vielen, Opi-typischen Miniversionen. Früher oder später musste ich sie haben. Stay the Night besteht aus einer schwarzen Base und pinkem/rotem Glitzer. Der Lack wird wie gewöhnlich aufgetragen und trocknet ohne Topcoat! zu einer matten, sandigen Textur. Es fühlt sich nicht an wie Schmirgelpapier, ist also gar nicht rau (auch wenn es so aussieht).
Nach zwei Schichten deckt er zuverlässig.
Da man auf einen Topcoat verzichtet, ist die Trockenzeit entsprechend länger. Nach ca. 20-30 Minuten ist aber alles gut durchgetrocknet. Zur Haltbarkeit kann ich aktuell noch nichts sagen. Ich kann mir allerdings vorstellen, dass die Oberfläche weniger anfällig ist.

Ich hab mich noch nicht wirklich entschlossen, ob ich das liquid sand-Finish gut finde oder nicht. Vielleicht muss ich dafür nochmal eine der anderen Farben probieren.

Soweit ich es in Erinnerung habe, wird es in den nächsten Kollektionen (neben der Liquid Sand Bond Girls collection die es sehr bald zu haben gibt) auch Sandlacke in einer neuen Minnie Mouse und der Herbst/Winter San Francisco Kollektion geben. Darauf bin ich schon wahnsinnig gespannt!


There's no doubt: I absolutely love nail polish. Actually there is no ugly, unwearable color for me. No wait, a nude, sheer color is something I don't like. That's like no polish at all, right?
So when it comes to certain trends, I need some time to get used to it. I just love me some good creme finish.

This january Opi released the first liquid sand formulas with the Mariah Carey collection. The four stage shades are available in the typical Opi minisets. Sooner or later I had to have those.
Stay the Night has a black base with small pink/red glitter. After applying it like your usual nail polish it dries to a textured, matte, sand like finish. No topcoat necessary. It doesn't feel rough at all. I applied two coats after a base coat. Because you need to skip the topcoat, it took the polish some 20-30 min to dry completely.
I can't say anything concerning wear time, but I think that the textured finish is not very prone to chipping.

I'm not sure yet if I really like the textured formula. Maybe I need to try some of the other colors to figure out of this could end in a long term relationship.

As far as I remember, Opi will release some more liquid sand polishes this year. Next up is the Bond Girls collection, which consists of liquid sand polishes only and should be available very soon. Followed by a new Minnie Mouse collection and the fall/winter San Francisco collection, both will have some textured finishes. I am super excited for these collections!

Der OPI Nagellack der Woche: OPI...Eurso Euro

Ich weiß nicht genau wann es passiert ist, aber es ist passiert: Ich liebe blauen Nagellack. OPI...Eurso Euro ist mittlerweile die blaue Nummer 7 in meinem Sortiment. Warum sollte ich noch viele Worte verlieren? Die Farbe ist ein Knaller! Im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes und: sie schreit nach Frühling! Die neue Euro Centrale Collection von OPI hat so einige tolle Farben hervorgebracht. OPI...Eurso Euro ist eine davon. Es ist ein kräftiges, nicht zu dunkles Blau, das klare Tendenzen in Richtung Lila hat. Auf den Bildern ist leider einfach fast nichts davon zu sehen. Ich habe es in jedem Licht und aus den verschiedensten Winkeln probiert, aber nein. So gut wie kein Hauch Lila wollte sich zeigen :( )
OPI...Eurso Euro passt bestens zum aktuellen Electric Blue-Trend, der derzeit in jedem Schaufenster zu sehen ist.
Ein wenig erinnert mich die Farbe auch an die knalligen 80er Jahre. Weiß auch nicht warum :)
Der Farbauftrag ist wie gewohnt streifenfrei und nach zwei aufgetragenen Schichten perfekt deckend.
Was mir aufgefallen ist, ist der Geruch. Der Lack riecht irgendwie anders als die anderen Nagellacke von OPI. Es ist nichts dramatisches, aber auffällig.
Ich bin schon sehr gespannt auf die anderen Farben der Euro Centrale Collection. In Kürze wird es davon noch mehr zu sehen geben auf dem Blog. In meinem Körbchen sind nämlich noch mehr Farben gelandet :)


I love blue nail polish! So no surprise here, that the color OPI...Eurso Euro from the Euro Centrale Collection is the lucky number 7 in the blue section of my collection (what a rhyme). This color is literally screaming the word spring! It is an intense, not too dark blue that leans towards purple. For some reasons I can´t understand, you can see nearly nothing at all of the purple that is in there in the pictures. I tried tons of different lights and millions of angles: but nada. Just a tiny, tiny hint of purple :(
OPI...Eurso Euro is perfect if you want to wear the current electric blue trend on your nails. Somehow it reminds me of the 80ies (in a good way), not sure why :)
I had no issues applying it. Two coats are totally fine.
What caught my nose, was the smell. It smells differently than the other OPI nail polishes I use. Nothing dramatic, just something I´ve noticed.
I really like the Euro Centrale Collection overall, so I ordered a few more colors to add to my collection. Stay tuned for more gorgeous shades here on the blog.

P.S. Whats the deal with the name..? I just don´t get it. Any ideas?

Der OPI Nagellack der Woche: Morning, Moneypenny!

Okay, ich gebe es zu: Ich bin kein Fan von nail art. Sternchen, Smileys und kleine Vögel sind einfach nicht mein Ding. Trotzdem bewundere ich alle die es beherrschen. Locker aus dem Handgelenk kleine Kunstwerke auf Fingernägel malen ist schon...wow.
Ich mache auch nicht alle Trends mit, so wie den crackle polish-Trend. Irgendwie war das nicht so meins. Aber dank einer lieben Freundin habe ich Magnetlack für mich entdeckt.
Jap, manchmal bin ich eine Spätzünderin. Aber besser spät als nie.

Mit der Skyfall Holiday Collection aus dem letzten Jahr brachte Opi neben den zwölf "normalen" Farben und dem The Man with the Golden Gun Topcoat 18K auch drei Magnetlacke auf den Markt.
Die Sets umfassen einen speziellen Lack und einen Magnetizer. Erhältlich war bzw ist er in den Farben Is that Silva? (Ratespiel: welche Farbe könnte das sein?), Bond, James Bond (ein Braungold) und Morning, Moneypenny. In meinem Besitz befindet sich nun Moneypenny. Die Farbe ist einfach wahnsinnig schön. Es ist ein dunkleres Pink mit klarem Lilastich und Multicolor-Glitzer.

Nach einer Schicht Basecoat habe ich wie auf der Anleitung vermerkt, zunächst eine Schicht trocknen lassen bevor ich die nächste aufgetragen und dann den Magnetizer benutzt habe.
Da ich etwas tolpatschig bin, habe ich beim ersten Anlauf den noch nassen Nagellack zu nah an den Magneten gehalten und zack wars versaut. Aber man lernt dazu ;-)
Das Ergebnis war dann okay, aber noch nicht super. Nach einer dritten, etwas dickeren Schicht war das Muster dann ganz klar sichtbar.
Horizontale Linien wie die auf dem Magnetizer sind es zwar nicht geworden, aber ich finde es trotzdem toll.
Es erinnert mich ein wenig an einen weiteren Trend: Galaxy nails.

Die Trockenzeit ist etwas länger als bei üblichem Nagellack und Topcoat würde ich auch erst verwenden, wenn der Lack schon gut durchgetrocknet ist.
Für den Magnetlack würde ich also grundsätzlich etwas mehr Zeit einplanen...Aber das Ergebnis entschädigt für die Wartezeit.


I can´t help it: I´m just not into nail art. These little stars, smileys and birds are simply not my cup of tea. Although I think that its really cool if you are able to paint tiny masterpieces on your nails.
I´m also no sucker for trends like crackle polish. But thanks to a good friend I discovered that I have a thing for magnetic nail polish. Nothing new about magnetic nail polish, I know. Better late than never.

Opi´s Skyfall Holiday Collection of 2012 included the twelve usual colors, The Man with the Golden Gun 18K Topcoat and three magnetic nail polishes. The colors: Is that Silva? (Have a guess what color this one might be), Bond, James Bond (a medium brown with gold glitter) and Morning, Moneypenny.
Moneypenny had to be added to my collection. The color is gorgeous. It has a pink base color with clear purple undertones and multicolored glitter.

After applying my basecoat I applied a coat of the magnetic nail polish and waited after applying a second coat of Moneypenny. Afterwards I used the magnetizer. The effect was not outstanding. Thanks to my clumsiness, I touched the magnet with my wet nail polish and had to start again.
After a third thicker coat of the Moneypenny nail polish I could see a clear pattern.
The magnetizer implicated that there should be horizontal lines, but the pattern is slightly different. I like it anyway.
Somehow this kind of nailart reminds me of another trend: Galaxy nails.

If you are planning to try out this technique with the Opi magnetic nail polishes you should take your time. The drying time is a little bit longer than with your usual Opi nail polishes. And I recommend to wait with applying the topcoat till the polish is dry. But the effect in the end is totally worth it.

Ripped nail is not a R.I.P. nail

Von meinem gescheiterten Kein Nagellack-Experiment habe ich einen eingerissenen Nagel davongetragen. Sowas wie eine Kriegsverletzung. Es ist passiert und was nun?
Wie bereits erwähnt, habe ich das web durchforstet und nach Möglichkeiten gesucht den Schaden zu beheben. Ich würde wahnsinnig gerne alle Quellen angeben die ich konsultiert habe, aber es waren so unheimlich viele Artikel und Videos die ich mir angesehen habe, dass ich es gar nicht mehr weiß :( Aber an all die guten Fingernagel-Feen da draußen: Danke, danke danke!

Also, wie bin ich vorgegangen? Die Fotos können hoffentlich ein wenig dokumentieren, wie man einen eingerissenen Nagel rettet.

Schritt 1: Man nehme ein Stück Toilettenpapier und trennt eine dünne Schicht davon ab.
Schritt 2: Auf den betroffenen Nagel einen Basecoat eurer Wahl auftragen.
Schritt 3: Mit einer Pinzette ein kleines Stück von dem dünnen Toilettenpapier abtrennen und auf den noch feuchten Nagellack an der Stelle "kleben", an welcher der Nagel eingerissen ist. Vorsichtig andrücken.
Schritt 4: Warten bis die erste Schicht Basecoat getrocknet ist und dann noch eine zweite Schicht auftragen und trocknen lassen.
Schritt 5: Wie gewöhnlich Nagellack und Topcoat auftragen und fertig.

Bisher hält alles bombenfest. Notiz an mich selbst: Beim nächsten Mal auf Schnappatmung und Panikattacke verzichten und lieber gleich das Klopapier auspacken.



My experiment turned out to be an epic fail, leaving me with a ripped nail. S*** happens, but what now?
As I already mentioned, I searched the web for advice. I would love to thank all nail-savers whose videos I´ve watched and articles I´ve read for their help, but I´m sorry. I can´t name the sources, there were sooo many, that I just simply forgot where I got it all from. But I want you to know that I´m really thankfull.

So, how to fix a ripped nail? I hope that the pictures below will help to visualize the whole process.

Step 1: Take a piece of toilet paper and separate it to get that very thin layer.
Step 2: Paint some base coat of your choice on the whole ripped nail.
Step 3: Use a pair of tweezers to tear apart a tiny piece of the thin layer of your already separated toilet paper. Apply the tiny piece of paper directly where your crack is and press it on carefully.
Step 4: Wait till the first coat of your base coat is dry and apply a second coat.
Step 5: Now just paint your nails the way you always do and you´re done.

Mission accomplished. The nail looks and feels like all the other nails. Note to self: Next time just skip the panic and take out the tissues, but not for the tears.

Das Experiment - the experiment Update

Ich werde nicht lange drumrum reden: Ich habe es nicht  ausgehalten.
Gestern haben mich meine Eltern mit für ein Stündchen mit an die frische Luft (und zum Supermarkt) genommen. Man vergisst schnell wie die Welt draußen aussieht wenn man den ganzen Tag nur mit der Nase in Büchern steckt.
Ich sollte also das Haus verlassen und - geriet in Panik.
Ich wollte das Experiment wirklich durchziehen, aber ohne Nagellack auch nur vor die Türschwelle treten? Ääääähhhhhmmm.....nein.
Also habe ich eine ganz unschuldige, dünne Schicht von OPI's Pink-ing of you aufgetragen. Ohne Base- und Topcoat. Also ernsthaft, das ist wie kein Nagellack tragen.

Es war auch ganz okay mit nur halb lackierten Nägeln durch die Gegend zu laufen. Und dann das: Beim Schließen der Autotür ist sie mir irgendwie aus der Hand gerutscht und zack, war mein Nagel eingerissen. Hab ich diese Strafe echt verdient? Lautet die Antwort ja, dann nicht dafür, dass ich mir die Nägel mit einer Alibi-Schicht lackiert habe, sondern weil ich keine vernünftige Maniküre gemacht habe. So sieht's aus.
Ich kann mich nicht daran erinnern wann ich zum letzten Mal einen eingerissenen Nagel hatte.
Wie von Sinnen habe ich Dr. Google konsultiert und haufenweise Videos auf YouTube angesehen um den Nagel wieder zu reparieren. Konnte ich ihn retten..? Wir werden sehen.
Was ich daraus gelernt habe? Ich werde nie, nie, nie wieder ohne Nagellack aus dem Haus gehen und auf keinen Fall mehr so ein Schwachsinnsexperiment machen.
Was habe ich mir dabei eigentlich gedacht? Nein, habe ich überhaupt gedacht?


I will not lie to you: I cheated.
Yesterday night my parents asked me to go on a walk and to drive to the supermarket with them (just for an hour). Its funny how you simply forget what the world outside looks like when the only thing you see all day long are endless pages full of theory.
So I was supposed to leave the house - and panicked.
I really wanted to resist and not paint my nails. But leaving the house without nail polish? Noooooooo way.
So I decided to use just a tiny little bit of OPI´s Pink-ing of you. It ended up being a really innocent, barely there coat of nail polish. No base- or topcoat. Isn´t this like wearing no nail polish at all?
It felt okay walking around with my nearly undone nails. Before it happened: I wanted to close the door of the car and somehow the door slipped of my fingertips and left the nail of my index finger ripped. Hell no!? Did I really deserve this punishment? I deserved it, because I thought I could do without a complete manicure. Thats why.
I can´t remember the last time I had a ripped nail. I started searching the web for advice and watching tons of YouTube videos immediately. Did it work? We´ll see.
Did I learn something?  Definitively. I will never ever leave the house without my nail polish again.
I must have been out of my mind. What was I thinking or did I think at all?
